3D Print Request Service

3D Print Request Service

Submit ready-to-print files to the library for direct printing.

This service is available to all current students, faculty and staff at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine.The library's 3D print service yields prototype-quality printing. Library staff may resize your model or make minor modifications to the support structure or infill to improve the likely success and quality of the finished print.

3D print submissions on this form are limited to academic, clinical and research objects. For other prints, please schedule a time to come to the studio and we can work with you to complete the print.

How to Submit a Print Request

Prepare your file

  • Save or export from your modeling program as an .stl file.
  • Use this format for naming your file: lastname_firstname-modelname  

Submit your job for printing

  • There is a 20 MB file size limit as a file attachment. If your file is larger than 20 MB, please contact us and bring it in to the library on a flash drive. You may also provide a OneDrive link to the file in the Additional Information box below so we can download it.
  • Items will be sized down to fit within the Ultimaker S5 bed (13" x 9" x 11").
  • Objects can take a up to five business days to be printed.
  • You may enter your email address to receive an email for confirmation that your print request form was received.

When file is finished printing

  • You will be contacted by email when your item is ready to pick up at the McGoogan Library AskUs desk.

3D Print Request Service Policy

  1.     Print requests will be limited to educational, clinical, and research objects. Library staff will have the discretion to determine if an object meets one of those three areas. Library staff will reach out to requesters for clarification as needed.
  2.     This service is designed for rapid prototyping, not production. Multiple prints of identical objects will be permitted with permission.
  3.     The library cannot guarantee model quality or stability, confidentiality of designs, or specific delivery times.
  4.     All user requests must comply with the 3D Printing Policy.

    
3D Printing Policy

  1.     The 3D printers are for non-commercial use only and may not be used to print items for resale.
  2.     3D Printers may not be used to produce anything in violation of local, state, or federal laws, or in violation of UNMC or library policies.
  3.     No firearms or other weapons (in part or in whole, including replicas), obscene or inappropriate objects may be created using the 3D printer.
  4.     Users must abide by all applicable intellectual property rights and laws including copyright law (Title 17, U.S. Code) and patent law (Title 35, U.S. Code).
  5.     The library cannot guarantee model quality or stability, confidentiality of designs, or specific delivery times. We are available to consult with you about your print request to advise on potential success of a print.
  6.     The McGoogan Health Sciences Library reserves the right to decline any print request for any reason.
