Author Toolkit: Home

This guide provides resources to help authors navigate the processes of research, writing, publication, and dissemination of scholarly works.

How Can the Library Assist Authors?

As institutions, libraries enter into licensing agreements with many different publishers for collection purposes. As individuals, many librarians write articles and books and have been in the position of academic author.

Informed by both of these perspectives, this guide and other guides in the McGoogan library provide information that authors, peer-reviewers, or editors might need to make informed decisions about scholarly publishing. Use it when you want to:

  • Read through and negotiate copyright in publishing agreements.
  • Evaluate publishers, know where to publish, and be aware of predatory practices.
  • Understand open access publishing.
  • Comply with public access policies.
  • Secure copyright permissions for reusing materials.
  • Find publishing tools.
  • Assisting with identity management.
  • Advising on impact metrics.
