The video below is an in-depth presentation by the publisher Springer that discusses how artificial intelligence is affecting science research and publishing.
Scholarly publishers are speaking out and creating policies surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in manuscripts submitted and published in their journals. AI as authorship is addressed in addition to the use of general editing tools. Many policies are based off of the Committee on Publication Ethics position statement and will continue to evolve. Below are links to policies from the major health sciences publishers.
If the publisher of the journal you are submitting to is not listed, refer to the journal's authorship or ethical guidelines for guidance.
Citation style guides have started to address the usage of large language models and AI such as chatGPT in writing and research. In general, you must declare when and how you use the technology in your writing, but there isn't yet consensus on how to do so.
It is important to remember that content generated by AI tools is usually nonrecoverable, so it cannot be retrieved later or linked in your citation.
The following are the current recommendations, although they will continue to evolve.
