Anatomy and Histology Images

  • Anatomy of the Human Body by Henry Gray  
    This online book features 1,247 vibrant engravings--many in color--from the classic 1918 publication, as well as a subject index with 13,000 entries. Banner ads are found at the top of the pages, but the illustrations are from the 1918 publication.
  • Atlas of Histology from College of Medicine, UIUC  
    Over 1000, labeled, histological images with accompanying functional descriptions. Interactive features allow the user to change magnification and examine areas of interest in great detail. Some images have interactive identification features.
  • Atlases of the Brain  
    The atlases include brain and spinal cord images and MRIs of the brain. Content is freely available for non-profit use by health science educators. Interactive features allow the user to request an outline of structures or a quiz on the image content.
  • The Digital Anatomist Project  
    These interactive, anatomy atlases were produced by the University of Washington. Brain, neuroanatomy, thorcic viscera, and knee atlases are available. The software and images are available for non-commercial use with some restrictions
  • Cells Alive!  
    Cells Alive! provides basic cell biology, microbiology, and immunology videos, micrographs and diagrams. The images are available for use in lectures and handouts and for other nonprofit, educational use with some important exceptions.
  • Interactive 3-D Skull Module  
    Interactive 3-D QuickTime movies of many skull bones and the external skull.
  • The John Martin Rare Book Room  
    Anatomical plates of Pietro da Cortona(1596-1669) and Paolo Mascagni(1752-1815) and the anatomical "flap book" of Johan Remmelin(1583-1632). Access these images through the "Images from the Collection" links on the left-hand side of the page.
  • The Skull Practical Exam  
    Thackery Gray, Ph.D., Professor of Cell Biology, Neurobiology & Anatomy at Loyola University Medical School produced this practice exam with links to exam answers.
  • The Visible Human Project  
    A project of the National Library of Medicine, the Visible Human Project provides access to cross-sectional images of the human female and male. Sample images are available free of charge.
